Following current government recommendations please be advised that our Probus meetings and activities are planned to recommence on the 18th August. In the meantime we trust you will stay safe and we will all meet again in August. (Last update 01/07/2021) .
Please note – The full list of meeting dates for the current year have been added for your information but the meeting topic and speaker will be added as and when the details are confirmed. (Updated 24/06/2021)
The Huddersfield Probus Club was the first such club in the Huddersfield area, formed back in 1973 as a progression of the Rotary movement. Retirement can come too early for many people who want and are able to remain active. Probus clubs are organisations for people who are retired, semi-retired or are nearing retirement from their profession or business and want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Our Club is run autonomously, with an absolute minimum of formality and our current members come from a wide range of professional and business backgrounds.
The main objectives of our Club are to promote friendship, provide entertainment and generate interest in topics you might not have thought about and at present we have a number of vacancies. We produce a programme of activities for the year where the subjects covered are informative, educational and/or entertaining. The list of speakers for this year is shown on the Programme page.
‘Hello from the current President’ – My name is Gerry and I am thrilled that you are showing some interest in our Probus Club . We are a moderately sized group of retired professional or businessmen who meet to enjoy each other’s company twice a month – well, perhaps we are not all moderately sized! I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised to see the things we do and the interests we pursue and we hope to hear from you soon
When We Meet
Our regular meetings are at Huddersfield Golf Club in Fixby on the first and third Tuesday mornings of every month, except August when we do not have any meetings.
Each meeting starts with tea or coffee between 10 o’clock and 10.30 followed by a brief information session from the committee members and then a talk by a visiting speaker. The talks usually last about an hour or slightly less.
In addition, we organise three ladies’ lunches through the year to which our wives and friends are invited – these are currently held at Outlane Golf Club. We also have an ‘Annual Dinner’ in October – this is an evening meeting held at Fixby Golf Club.
In addition, a variety of excursions and social events are offered during the year.
Does this appeal to you? We welcome guests and if you would like to give us a try, just turn up at one of our meetings and you will be made most welcome. Alternatively, use our Contact page to make an approach and we will get back to you.
For any further information or for details of how to become a member please contact our Secretary Steve Sykes direct on the Officials page or via (email@example.com).
